A Walk In The Woods
My grandmother contracted scarlet fever when she was a child. Her eyesight deteriorated as the disease burned away optic nerves and rendered her with permanent blindness. The result was a beautiful woman who saw everything from the inside out. No judgment of visual character, Gram was a great listener and possessed the innate ability to feel the difference in objects as subtle as a five dollar bill and a ten. Learning from her example, I practice seeing from the inside out and realize that I may never
truly develop the ability to see as clearly as she could with her hands and ears.
"A Walk in the Woods‚" is a tribute to my grandmother's determination to overcome obstacles. I remember the long rope she fingered from the front door to her mailbox to avoid getting lost along the way. I can't help but wonder if this ingenuity would have spared Hansel and Gretel from their breadcrumb disaster.
"Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others." - Jonathon Swift (1667 - 1745)
The original art measures 11.5”w x 16”h and I used pen, ink, color pencil & watercolor on an acid free Crescent illustration board.

Sir Charles, No. 1
In 2004, I produced a series of five drawings featuring my fuzzy 23 pound cat, Sir Charles. I enjoyed watching the expressions from friends and family as they would try to figure out whether they were about to be attacked or violated by this loving beast who greeted people with a genuine bear hug as soon as they would take a seat. Although Sir Charles only caught one mouse during his lifetime, I would like to think that he did so because he preferred to make friends, not food.
The original art was created using pen, ink, color pencil & watercolor
on 140 lb. acid free Arches watercolor paper. It measures 13.5”w x 11.5”h

The original work was created in pen, color pencil, watercolor and ink. It measures 15”w x 10.5”h. The original art is in a private collection.
